Vascular Sonographer / Vascular Scientist Job Title: Clinical Vascular Scientist – Vascular Sonographer Reporting To: Lead Vascular Scientist Job Location: Based at Frimley Park Hospital Trust, but working flexibly to support contracts in local area. Salary (Full time): £51,308.40 p.a. (£32.89 p.h.) Full Time Hours: 30HRS PER WEEK (9:00-15:00 Mon-Fri) (P-T hours available) Benefits: Staff benefit package includes payment for: Professional membership (SVT/BMUS), AGM, Travel, Parking, Indemnity Insurance Job Specification To participate in providing a high quality clinical service in non-invasive vascular investigations; adhering to best practice of ultrasound technique. To maintain a high level of professionalism and technical standard of work, complying with relevant Codes of Practice. Key Working Relations • Client Groups including Patients & Local-host Unit Managers, Clinical Consultants & Clinical and non-clinical colleagues • Southern Ultrasound’ Clinical and non-clinical colleagues • Southern Ultrasound Head Office (For HR & Accounting matters) Key Result Areas and Specific Duties Clinical/Technical • Undertake examinations in line with the patient referrals adhering to departmental guidelines. • To carry out and interpret all non-invasive vascular investigations; currently: o extra-cranial, o upper limb arterial/venous, o lower limb arterial/venous, o aortic & visceral arterial, o bypass graft surveillance o Fistula assessment • To independently interpret, report and discuss all findings following routine and complex vascular investigations. • To clinically justify vascular investigation requests. • To work using own initiative but be aware of own limitations and seek guidance when necessary. • To plan and prioritize own patient workload at independent clinics. • To assist in the training of junior clinical staff. • Take responsibilities for equipment by reporting faults, failures or breakdowns to the Lead Vascular Sonographer or the Local-host Unit Manager, or, when required, to service engineers. • Responsible for safe use of all specialist equipment by self and trainees. • To be familiar with the department reporting system and to ensure all examinations have been entered onto the system accurately. • Understand and adhere to the Company Health and Safety Policy • Demonstrate safe, effective practice in line with the Company policies and procedures Administrative • Ensure the booking of patients and all Patient Information Systems are maintained with accurate and up to date information • To maintain an up to date record of patient work load for auditing purposes. • Ensure the security and upkeep of all relevant electronic patient records • To liaise with reception/secretarial staff in the vetting, booking and handling of queries and to carry out occasional clerical duties related to vascular investigations/prioritizing & organizing inpatients’ investigations. Training and Development • Share knowledge and clinical expertise • Take ownership and fulfil the requirements of any required Statutory and Mandatory training • To be professionally responsible and accountable for continuing professional development and compliance with the Society of Vascular Technology [SVTGBI] requirements for continuing accreditation or relevant Health & Care Professions Council [HCPC]. • To keep up to date in specialist clinical areas, including professional development in Vascular Technology, thereby professionally supporting department staff and vascular surgeons. General • Adhere to all operational procedures as outlined by the Company. • Maintain a high level of professionalism, customer care, and service provision. • Report all incidents and complaints in line with Company Policies. • Adhere to the requirements of the Data Protection Act. • Ensure the smooth flow of clinical and administrative work. • Participate in governance activities i.e. audits, personal development, and team meetings • Maintain a clean and safe working environment and ensure all equipment from the Vascular Laboratory is used, stored and cleaned appropriately. • Comply with ISO standards in respect of Information Security Management • At all times required to carry out own responsibilities towards staff and patients with due regard to Equal Opportunities Policy. • To liaise and communicate effectively with staff both within and external to the department regarding day-to-day operations and patient care. • To appear on duty promptly and be appropriately dressed. • Be familiar with all applicable Southern Ultrasound’ Policies and Procedures Core Competencies • Professional Competence and Development • Communication • Customer Service • Flexibility & Adaptability • Team Working ? Person Specification 1: Knowledge Essential Desirable • Post accreditation experience in a dedicated Vascular Laboratory, ability to scan & independently report to protocols. Examples of essential scanning experience include: to confidently scan and independently report on upper/lower limb arteries (including aortoiliac and calf run-off); to confidently scan and independently report on lower limb veins for the full range of varicose vein treatments. • Ability to work in a multidisciplinary team (Interview) • Basic appreciation of patient care & confidentiality (CV & Interview) • Implications of the Data Protection Act and Caldicott Principles (CV & Interview) • Infection Control training, Manual Handling and Patient Transfer training, Health and Safety Awareness training, ILS training (CV & Interview) 2: Skills and Experience Essential Desirable • Ability to scan and report varied vascular case mix independently, communicate with vascular surgeons and other clinicians effectively • Professional and cooperative attitude towards patients, customers and colleagues (Interview) • Proven competency in verbal and written communication including report writing (CV & Interview) • Computer Literacy with accurate data entry skills and attention to detail (Interview) • Have experience on interpreting and reporting ultrasound findings (Interview) • Supervision/training skills, self-management and organizational skills. • Working within a multi-disciplined team (CV) • A demonstrable aptitude towards improving quality (Interview) • Basic understanding of clinical governance • Safety awareness skills utilizing ultrasound equipment (Interview) 3: Qualifications and Special Training Essential Desirable Qualifications • Member of an appropriate professional body and evidence of ongoing accreditation. (CV) • Accredited Vascular Scientist or • Diploma in Medical Ultrasound or PG Dip in Medical Ultrasound 4: Personal Requirements Essential Desirable • Flexibility to work a variable session list and be available to carry out on-call support (not 24hrs) (Interview) • Be prepared to undertake national travel to attend appropriate courses or seminars/conferences (Interview) • Be resident in an area which is reasonably commutable to the location of the role (Interview) • Proven diligence in CPD activity (CV & Interview) • Flexibility to provide ad-hoc cover when required, to accommodate holiday and sickness

Applications are sought for a permanent experienced Vascular Sonographer / Clinical Vascular Scientist to join the team at ‘Southern Ultrasound Ltd’.
‘Southern Ultrasound’ is a provider of Ultrasound Services to the NHS, specifically to Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust. We are seeking a full-time or part-time vascular Sonographer.
The successful applicant shall be working primarily within the Frimley Hospital, with some sessions in various locations in the Frimley Health and associated catchment areas.
Ideally, you should possess full SVT accreditation or a post-graduate qualification in Vascular Ultrasound. Appropriate non-UK qualifications will be considered.
Full-time staff work just 30 hours per week, but are paid with a salary in excess of NHS Band 8. (Part-time work for full-time pay!) In addition, our Staff Benefits Package includes payment towards:

In exchange, you will be expected to provide a full range of vascular examinations, both as part of a team and independently. Scans are performed on a range of in-patients and out-patients and you will work closely with scientific, nursing, medical and administrative staff in Vascular Surgery, Clinical Imaging and other clinical Directorates. Some weekend work is anticipated in the near future.
We require an enthusiastic and experienced Vascular Scientist / Sonographer to fulfill the needs of the current service and to help to establish the service at new locations.
Due to the variable nature of the work, the successful applicant must be able to rapidly settle into new working environments and communicate effectively with peers, patients and clinicians. An ability to work with both new and older imaging equipment is an obvious advantage
The successful applicant will ideally have their own vehicle and be willing to travel as required to cover local centers according to a prearranged rota.
As mentioned above, we are looking for full-time or part-time staff.
