Specialist Clinical Vascular Scientist Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Band 8a Salary £45,753 to £51,668 a year Contract: Permanent Working pattern: Full-time or Part time hours The closing date for applications is 28 February 2021 Job overview An exciting opportunity has arisen for experienced and enthusiastic Specialist Vascular Scientists to join the Vascular Investigation Unit at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The post holders are expected to have a BSc in a relevant science, extensive experience (5 years) in Vascular Ultrasound and hold Accreditation as a Vascular Scientist or equivalent with proven leadership and management experience Main duties of the job The post holders are expected to assist in the management of nominated members of the team, including the management of administrative staff for the department. The post holder is also expected to liaise with Vascular Surgeons, Radiologists, Nurses and a wide range of other clinical/non-clinical staff both within the Trust and externally. About us The unit provides comprehensive Vascular ultrasound services at both Gloucester Royal and Cheltenham General Hospital as part of the Gloucestershire and Swindon Vascular Service Network, as well as supporting the National AAA screening service. The Vascular Laboratory is involved in training of staff under the NHS Scientist Training Programme and helps deliver training to several other staff groups within the hospital and beyond. The department provides a 7 day a week carotid ultrasound service for the TIA clinic. Job description Job responsibilities The post holders will assist the Principal Vascular Scientist in managing the operational aspects of the service, including training activities and research. The post holder will contribute to the clinical governance, quality, safety and development of the service and will help support Vascular MDT, business and clinical governance meetings. Person Specification Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills Essential • At least 5 years' experience post accreditation and must be an Accredited Vascular Scientist and hold a relevant qualification or experience at MSc level • Full Accreditation with Society of Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland (AVS) • Experience of managing & teaching junior/trainee staff • Must have extensive post-graduate work & clinical examination experience; including a comprehensive understanding of vascular anatomy, disease process, physic and haemodynamic principles of ultrasound • Good verbal & written communicating skills to report complex findings & technical information on vascular haemodynamic & anatomy in a format interpret-able by a range of medical professional with various levels of understandings. • Ability to make evidence based judgement, sometimes in high pressure situations that have a direct impact on patient care and surgical treatment. This includes intra-operative monitoring and bedside assessments conducted on patients with critical conditions in ITU and A&E • Computer literacy & experience with database entry • Good hand eye co-ordination and manual dexterity in order to perform controlled and precise, repetitive hand movements • Ability to work for extended periods often in unnatural and manipulated positions that require a fair degree of effort & concentration Disclosure and Barring Service Check This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.
