An exciting opportunity has arisen for Vascular Scientists to join our dynamic multidisciplinary team, at University Hospitals Birmingham.

An integral part of the Birmingham Vascular Centre (one of the biggest vascular units in the UK), the laboratory has recently expanded and restructured to meet the future needs for our service. You will join a highly experienced team working across the hospitals in Birmingham.

We are well equipped with dedicated vascular laboratories and scanning rooms on our different sites and modern cart based ultrasound machines including GE, Phillips and Siemens.

The laboratory offers one stop out-patient services alongside the Medical staff as well as dedicated surveillance lists and support for in-patients.

You will be expected to perform a wide range of vascular investigations, including carotid, upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex scans, graft surveillance scans and imaging of endovascular aneurysm repair. Non-imaging tests such as ABPI and exercise tests are performed.

We can offer you the chance to grow your career clinically with excellent development opportunities available in research and management for the right candidates.

In return we are looking for flexible team workers who value being part of a big successful team and who are ready to work across our different sites. You must have good communication skills and be proficient in liaising with a number of different staff groups including Vascular Surgeons, Radiologists, Nurses and a wide range of other staff. You would be responsible for participating in routine services, training activities and research. Together with other members of the team you will be responsible for the quality, patient safety and development of services as well as supervision of trainee scientists.

Birmingham has excellent road, rail and air links and boasts a wide variety of art and culture, as well as sports facilities and a vibrant social scene.

Birmingham’s central location makes travelling to other parts of the UK easily accessible.

Applications are also welcomed from final year Scientific Training Program trainees in Vascular Science (STPs) or individuals training towards the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain and Ireland post graduate accreditation and may be considered on Band 7 Annex 21, with progression onto the substantive post upon HCPC registration /SVT AVS accreditation.

If you feel you are suited to this post, and would like to discuss further please contact Ivan Kalik, Lead Vascular Scientist on Ivan.Kalik@uhb.nhs.uk
