We would like to recruit a Vascular Scientist for a post in the Clinical Measurement Department at University Hospitals Dorset. Our department's main function is to carry out specialist tests on blood flow using various devices but mostly using ultrasound scanners. Our department is situated within Radiology (X-Ray) at Royal Bournemouth Hospital. Our professional staff are all qualified to Masters level having undergone extensive training in these specialist fields. We are looking for a hard-working, enthusiastic and friendly vascular scientist to join the team for this full time position. The candidate should have full accreditation with the Society for Vascular Technology of Great Britain & Ireland and / or have completed the NSHCS Scientist Training Programme as a Vascular Scientist. Vascular Scientists who have trained in the STP scheme who have not yet obtained AVS would be strongly encouraged and assisted to do so. This post is to work with 4 other vascular scientists and 3 assistants. The candidate would be based at RBH but will be required to work at Poole hospital (8 miles away) from time to time on a rota. We also cover weekend TIA clinic on a rota (1 in 7) with enhanced pay given and time off in lieu. Two of our vascular scientists trained here under the STP scheme and we currently have an STP trainee in her 3rd year. Royal Bournemouth Hospital is the Vascular hub for Dorset and South Wiltshire with 8 Consultant Vascular surgeons and a very active Interventional Radiology department. We work closely with the surgeons and radiologists providing duplex scanning and ABPIs in up to 8 one- stop clinics / week. We have 3 duplex scanners, 2 in the main department and one in our own room in vascular outpatients. We attend and participate in the weekly vascular MDT. Our Vascular Scientists also work in Poole Hospital to provide expert backup to sonographers who have some vascular scanning knowledge. In this way we aim to achieve a consistent standard of quality in vascular scanning and reporting. The successful applicant will be empathetic, organised and meticulous. The emphasis is always on maintaining high standards, achieving a good throughput of patients while giving all patients the best possible care. We carry out most of the usual vascular diagnostics scans and tests as well as AV fistula pre op and post op assessment, duplex for temporal arteritis, graft and stent surveillance, iliac venous stent surveillance, toe pressure assessment and air plethysmography(occasionally). Training will be provided when needed. Our department is small and friendly but is within the Radiology Directorate giving us administrative support and including us within their reporting and PACs systems. We also maintain strong links with colleagues in Medical Physics and Radiology at Poole Hospital which, with Bournemouth is now part of the University Hospitals Dorset. This is an attractive area in which to live and work. We only a short distance from beautiful beaches and excellent leisure facilities. The new Forest and the Purbecks are only a short drive or cycle away. This region boasts arguably the best sailing opportunities in the UK; the weather is better than most parts too! There are fast road & rail links to London. The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and Poole Hospital NHS Foundation Trust have now merged into the University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust. Please contact Dominic Foy; Clinical Lead for any more details and an informal discussion. You would be very welcome for an informal visit prior to the interviews.
