Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Clinical Vascular Scientist (or trainee) to join the Vascular laboratory team, based in Ninewells Hospital. The Vascular Laboratory is an integral part of a very dynamic vascular surgery team. Teamwork is highly valued and staff development across the multi-disciplinary team is strongly supported.

Vascular services for NHS Tayside and NHS Fife have been delivered through a network, East of Scotland Vascular Network (ESVN), since 2002. The laboratory provides a hub and spoke diagnostic service across Tayside and Fife. Approximately 10,000 assessments are performed in Tayside per annum. Additionally, a further 5,000 assessments are performed in Fife. The department receives patient referrals from acute services and from GP practices.

The successful applicants will apply professional clinical knowledge and advanced skills in diagnostic imaging in the assessment and review of patients, presenting with vascular disease. You will be involved with the patient in the initial diagnostic (triage) assessment and pre intervention assessment and reporting. Post intervention a baseline assessment is performed which will determine the continued surveillance in the community. You will provide the diagnostic imaging and reporting necessary to support decision making and treatment plans.

The laboratory also provides a service to support the haemodialysis department, rapid access stroke clinic, rapid access DVT clinic, one stop vascular clinics, vascular ulcer clinics, theatres, and in-patient care. There will be a commitment to provide this service both in the Vascular Laboratory Ninewells Hospital, Dundee and at the busy satellite service in the Victoria Hospital Kirkcaldy. Ability to travel is therefore essential.

You should possess a BSc in clinical physiology or a related scientific subject and will have postgraduate accreditation (either a PG Dip in vascular ultrasound or SVT accreditation). Ideally you will have previous experience post accreditation. Consideration will also be given to applicants with BSc in clinical physiology or a related scientific subject. The post would subsequently be considered as a training post with an expectation the post holder must achieve post graduate accreditation in vascular ultrasound within three years. You will be required to achieve the mandatory Induction standards for Healthcare Support Workers in Scotland and to comply with the Code of Conduct throughout your employment. This post requires PVG Scheme Membership/Disclosure Scotland Check.

You will be working in a stunning part of the UK. Situated on the east coast of Scotland, Tayside offers an outstanding quality of life and work. Home to the historic cities of Dundee and Perth, Tayside offers excellent links to Aberdeen, Edinburgh, and Glasgow. Ninewells hospital is situated on the banks of the Tay. It is close to beaches and within easy reach of stunning scenery across the mountains and glens. Dundee is the sunniest city in Scotland and named as one of the top destinations to visit.
