Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly experienced vascular scientist to become clinical lead for University Hospitals Derby and Burton NHS Foundation Trust.
The vascular ultrasound team is in the process of being transformed, joining departments across UHDB sites. This is a great opportunity to be at the forefront of developing the highest quality service. As clinical lead, you will be expected to lead on training, develop MDT's to bring the sites together and work collaboratively.
You will be an SVT accredited clinical vascular scientist with a proven track record of performing and reporting both basic and advanced clinical scans. With the ability to teach and assess competence of other staff, you will lead on clinical audit, to ensure the highest standards are met. You will provide managerial support to the service lead and deputise in their absence.
The vascular service supports a range of healthcare professionals across surgery, medicine and diagnostics. Royal Derby Hospital have 2 purpose-built vascular ultrasound suites and a dedicated scan room in the TIA clinic.
At present the Vascular Ultrasound Lab sits within a friendly multidisciplinary department that includes Cardiology, Respiratory, Gastric and Neurophysiology. With an excess of 100 staff in total, our wider Clinical Measurement Department is a large and sociable place to work. Viewing of the department is welcome and encouraged.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to perform a wide range of vascular investigations, including carotid and temporal artery scans, upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex scans, AAA and graft surveillance scans. Non-imaging tests such as ABPI are also performed.
As clinical lead you will be expected to provide teaching, audit, supervisory and managerial support. We actively encourage continuous professional development.
The vascular ultrasound service is expanding to provide vascular imaging services to other hospitals within the Trust, so may involve cross-site working. This post will also involve some weekend on-call work on a rota basis, providing imaging for the 7 day-a-week TIA service.
