Our lovely Vascular Studies Unit (VSU) is seeking to employ a full time 37.5 hours SVT Accredited Clinical Vascular Scientist (AVS). Those who hold a post-graduate level vascular ultrasound qualification and working towards SVT AVS qualification are encouraged to apply. Students training towards STP or other post-graduate level vascular ultrasound qualifications are encouraged to apply, and may be considered at a lower grade. Applicants who have not attained AVS accreditation will be asked to perform a practical ultrasound assessment at interview.
The Vascular Studies Unit is a UKAS (IQIPS V2) accredited service, the first in the UK to achieve this new version of accreditation and reflects our high quality standards. The Leicester Vascular Institute (LVI), based at Glenfield Hospital Leicester, is one of the leading Vascular Centres in the UK and is the regional centre of excellence for treating complex cardiovascular disease in conjunction with cardiac surgery. The LVI consists of a single-site specialist Vascular Ward, Vascular Studies Unit, Hybrid Theatre & Vascular Theatre, and adjacent dedicated Vascular Angio-suite, and Vascular Outpatient Clinics.
The Vascular Studies Unit has an opportunity for a Clinical Vascular Scientist to join our friendly and dynamic multidisciplinary team consisting of 10 Clinical Vascular Scientists (approx. 7 WTE), Vascular Technician and administrative support. You will work alongside 10 Vascular Consultant Surgeons, 9 Vascular Interventional Radiologists, and 4 Specialist Vascular Nurses. A vacancy has arisen as one of our lovely team is leaving us to pursue a new career.
The VSU has excellent facilities, adjacent to our specialist Vascular Ward, and is equipped with five top-range GE Logiq colour duplex scanners, portable ultrasound, transcranial Doppler monitors and non-imaging Doppler equipment. We have 2 purpose-built ultrasound suites in VSU, a ward scan room, a scan room in vascular outpatients, and a dedicated scan room in TIA clinic. All are spacious and feature air conditioning, dimmable lighting, and PACS reporting stations. The VSU provides vascular imaging services to other Hospitals within the Trust, which will involve cross-site working. This post will also involve some weekend work on a rota basis, providing imaging for the 7 day-a-week ambulatory stroke and TIA service.
You will be expected to perform a wide range of vascular investigations, including carotid and temporal artery scans, upper and lower limb arterial and venous duplex scans, AAA and graft surveillance scans and imaging of endovascular aneurysm repair (sometimes involving CEUS). Non-imaging tests such as ABPI & TBPI are performed. The VSU also supports measurements in vascular theatres, including TCD monitoring. In addition, you will also be expected to provide teaching, audit, supervisory and managerial support. The VSU is involved in research projects and there will be opportunity to participate in these projects. The VSU actively encourages continuous professional development.
